6:15-7:15pm: A Keynote Session - Mindfulness and The Future of Self

Presentor: Dr. Darren Good, Assistant Professor of Applied Behavioral Science

We have entered just the beginning of a truly integrated digital work age. Yet it is already apparent what happens to our sense of experience when more of our interactions at work become mediated through our technological devices. The outcome for many is a loss of connection to our ongoing experience; an abstract work life in which the volume from our senses is turned way down. Instead, we have turned the volume on our internal dialogue up. And much of this internal dialogue is mindless chatter about the past or the future; thoughts about what could have or should happen. This removes us from directly experiencing the people and events at work as we encounter them, making our sense meaning more elusive.

So what is a potential antidote for maintaining ourselves in the future of work?

Dr. Good will:

Introduce and Define Mindfulness
Illustrate the automatic nature of our work lives
Share some best practices for Mindfulness at work
