About the 90-Second Fast Pitch Competition:
  • Registered teams that meet the eligibility requirements will make a 90-second fast pitch on February 9, 2013 at the West Los Angeles Graduate Campus
  • The 90-second pitch will be followed by a 2-minute question and answer session.
  • Six finalists will be selected and announced at the end of the fast pitch competition.
The six student teams of entrepreneurs will face off on March 16 for a chance to win cash prizes totaling $7,000 – including a $4,000 grand prize – in the Pepperdine Business Plan Competition.

Professor of Applied Behavioral Science
Pepperdine University
Dr. Rockey presents programs on creative problem solving, communication, stress management, and leadership for corporations such as Procter & Gamble and Prudential Insurance and for smaller companies. He wrote, narrated, produced, and marketed the workbook/cassette album Successful Time Management and authored Communicating in Organizations (Winthrop Management Series). He has lectured in several countries including at an international conference in New Zealand which published his work on coaching students to write and present original, current, actual case studies which class members attempt to solve. Dr. Rockey maintains high interest in reporting research on how executives and entrepreneurs apply visual thinking, and he is presented "Icons of the Managerial Mind" at the 2011 conference of the Creative Problem Solving Institute.

The Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) annually hosts a regional M&A Case Competition between graduate business schools. Seven schools in Southern California, including Pepperdine University, are challenged in real-world business analysis, valuation and strategy. The competition began in Southern California in 2004 and then expanded across sixteen designated regions of the United States in 2008. The competition consists of an “Internal Round” where by student teams from each University compete to determine who will represent their school at the ‘Regional Round.”
For those of you not participating as a team, you can come up to the Drescher Campus Large Auditorium on Wednesday February 6 at 7:30 to watch the case competition.

The Finance Club and Entertainment Club present Blaine Lourd as a guest speaker. Blaine will be describing his career, his trading in efficient markets and his views on the future of the markets.

Blaine Lourd, President and CEO, has over 25 years of experience advising institutions and ultra-high net worth clients. His independent firm is comprised of highly trained investment professionals who have worked in the institutional investment management arena for Dimensional Fund Advisors (and whose clients includeCalPERS, Stanford Endowment, Lucille Packard Foundation, Boeing Pension Fund as well as with multi-billion dollar family offices). The team is responsible for reviewing current academic research and innovation in the world of professional finance to determine whether and how to apply it to client strategies. They also rely on close relationships with investment firms like Vanguard, Barclays, and Dimensional Fund Advisors for insights into delivering capital market returns for our mutual clients. Each LCM investment team member is selected for his or her academic preparation and business acumen.
