Liam E. McGee is chairman, president and chief executive officer of The Hartford, a leader in property and casualty insurance, group benefits and mutual funds. Since joining The Hartford in 2009, McGee has led a turnaround and strategic transformation of the company with the goal of generating a superior shareholder return. The company has made significant progress executing its strategy to build greater financial strength, flexibility and focus, and to profitably grow its business portfolio and reduce the size and risk of variable annuity exposure. Before joining The Hartford, McGee spent more than three decades as a business leader, most recently serving as president of the Consumer and Small Business Bank for Bank of America Corporation. A native of County Donegal, Ireland, McGee grew up in Southern California. He earned a BA from the University of San Diego, an MBA from Pepperdine University and a JD from Loyola Law School.

Pepperdine Business Plan Competition - Final Round

Student teams of entrepreneurs face off for a chance to win cash prizes totaling at least $9,500 – including a $5,000 grand prize and the chance to represent Pepperdine at the California Dreamin' Competition. A distinguished panel of entrepreneurs and venture capitalists will judge the competition and provide invaluable feedback and networking opportunities to the teams.

The Business Plan Competition reflects the Graziadio School hallmarks of experience-driven and entrepreneurial education – giving students a chance to apply the knowledge they’ve learned to fulfill their dreams of launching their own business. Students from all schools of Pepperdine are invited to compete.

Final Round
  • The six finalists will be informed of their advancement to the final round at the conclusion of the February 8, 2014 fast pitch competition
  • The final six teams will be required to make a presentation to their peers, judges and the investment community
  • The final presentation will be 10 minutes in length followed by a 10-minute question-and-answer period. Both the presentation and the Q&A will be timed.

We are excited to have Lori Heffelfinger, founder of the Heffelfinger Company as our featured guest speaker. Heffelfinger holds a Master of Science in Organization Development from Pepperdine University and a Bachelor of Science in business administration from the University of Nebraska, as well as certificates in coaching, and organization and systems development. She has extensive experience working directly for Fortune 100 and middle market companies in strategy implementation, organizational change and leadership development.  Heffelfinger led organizational effectiveness at Raytheon’s $8B Electronic Systems business and was a director of organization and management development at Honeywell. Additionally, she has held human resources leadership roles at Honeywell/Allied Signal, Ashland Chemical and Monsanto Company.

Speaker: Doug Frank is the former President of Music Operations at Warner Pictures. He supervised the music on the Batman, Harry Potter, Lethal Weapon and Matrix series, as well as on such feature films as "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", "City of Angels", "Space Jam", and more recently on the Academy Award-winning "Happy Feet" and "The Departed", as well as the blockbusters "300", "The Dark Knight" and "Sherlock Holmes". Currently, Frank serves as the Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (NARAS) and was selected to join the Board of Directors of MusiCares. He is also working with Celine Dion on her new Las Vegas show, scheduled to open on March 15, 2011.

If you are taking part in the summer internship course your first requirement is to join a Webinar on March 13th at 6:00pm.  Professor Stephen Rapier will lead the session joined by Professor Don Atwater and members of the Career Management Center. They have prepared a one-time Webinar session to go over what the summer 2014 course is about, what summer 2013 interns shared about their internship learning experiences, and what you can do to build reasonable and achievable expectations for your summer 2014 internships.
The session is a required component of the internship course. The link to join the session can be found in the Sakai course. If all goes as expected the session will take less than an hour and will provide you with answers to all of your questions. If you cannot make it to the webinar, it will be recorded and posted to Sakai
