What Job is Right for You?

What Color is Your Parachute? by Richard Nelson Bolles is a book for job-seekers that has been in print since 1970 and it is one of the most highly regarded career advice books in print.

    Workshop Purpose and Objectives:
In this fun and highly interactive workshop participants will identify the steps necessary to decide on a job goal.  This session will incorporate the importance of values in career decisions and provide a tool to identify their top 5 values and why this is the most important tool in finding a job that will make you happy.  The concept of a “Taxi” job and a system for charting potential satisfaction levels on different careers will be introduced. The RIASEC theory of career development will be introduced via a “Party” exercise where participants will choose the corner of the room based on their interests. The top two most commonly asked interview questions will be discussed.

    Participants will:

Identify their five most important personal values.

In order to gain a better understanding of the correlation between personal values and career satisfaction.

Participate in an Interest activity based on the RIASEC theory of Career Development and identify their top 3 areas of interest. Online assessment tools will also be discussed.
Learn the number one most effective way to get a job.

This can help them save time and money while job hunting.

Identify and discuss answers to the two most common interview questions.

They will focus on their unique skills, interests and abilities.

Learn a three point decision-making matrix.

This tool can be used to help participants make better career and life decisions.

Learn to shift their paradigm about the career decision-making process.

This will give them new ways to begin to consider a career transition.

    Presenter:
Liz Mohler, is a Career Coach, professional speaker and facilitator.  She is the author of “If the Job Fits Get It! Many of us live as outsiders within, have mental health issues, or have been victims of trauma, such as war, genocide, torture, or terrorism. One thinks especially of victims of the Holocaust, or more recently victims of religious persecution in Syria and Iraq. Experiences like these have a tearing, fracturing effect on a person's life, and they raise the issue of whether our lives are, as philosophers say, "integrated"expressing a coherent, meaningful story all throughout and independent of the vagaries of our environment. Both integration and independence are widely assumed to be desirable goals for a human life, goals denied to e.g. victims of the Holocaust. But I will argue for an alternative view of personal identity that better accommodates and empowers victims of trauma.
