Speaker: Miroslav Volf - "How Can Religion Heal Rather Than Divide?", Q&A Moderator: John Barton, Director of the Center for Faith and Learning, Professor of Religion, ---, The major religions of the world are shaping our lives and our planet in significant ways. Those who see religions as intolerant and divisive may consider this negative, perhaps even dangerous, news. However, Miroslav Volf proposes a counter-narrative: that religions actually make vital, positive contributions to helping communities flourish. Volf taps into the deep resources of his own Christian faith to offer a profound vision for how Christians can live in our pluralistic world and interact faithfully and peacefully with their global neighbors., --, Miroslav Volf was educated in his native Croatia, United States, and Germany. He earned doctoral and post-doctoral degrees (with highest honors) from the University of Tuebingen, Germany. He has written or edited 15 books and over 70 scholarly articles. His most significant books include Exclusion and Embrace (1996); After Our Likeness (1998) in which he explores the Trinitarian nature of ecclesial community; Allah: A Christian Response (2011), whether Muslims and Christians have a common God; and A Public Faith: On How Followers of Christ Should Serve the Common Good (2011)., After receiving the B.A. from the Evangelical-Theological Faculty in Osijek, Croatia, Miroslav received his M.A. from Fuller Theological Seminary and both his Dr. theol. and Dr. theol. habil. from the University of Tübingen, Germany. He served as co-editor (1979-84) and then editor (1984-89) of Izvori, a Croatian Christian monthly, and he has published numerous books and articles in the U.S., Germany, and his native Croatia., Miroslav has given many prestigious lectureships including the Dudleian Lecture, Harvard; the Chavasse Lectures, Oxford; the Waldenstroem Lectures, Stockholm; the Gray Lectures, Duke University; and the Stob Lectures, Calvin College. He has been featured on National Public Radio’s Speaking of Faith and Public Television’s Religion and Ethics Newsweekly, as was a keynote presenter for the Trinity Institute’s 36th National Conference, “The Anatomy of Reconciliation” (2006).

Westlake Village, CA 91361
Saturday, March 25, 2017, 10am – 12pm

It’s a matter of fact that transitioning in your career – especially upwards – starts by knowing what you want. The ability to leverage the skills you bring to the table, the successes you have contributed to a cause greater than yourself, and the thirst inside you to go after more than where you are right now is the best place for you to start the journey that will get you the promotion, the next job, the lateral or vertical move, the new title, and the new paycheck.  Knowing how to effectively SHOW UP (sell yourself, hone your skills, own your talents, work with others, understand solutions, and practice results) is paramount for everyone, especially executives, managers, and those looking to move up in their career.

This workshop is designed to strengthen your career capacity so that you can explore those opportunities for a promotion or new job with more ease, confidence, and purpose.  You will learn practical techniques to create a more streamlined pitch, carve out your brand identity, and create a results-based plan for your career trajectory.

In this workshop, you will learn:
• How to talk about yourself in a way that sets you apart from others.
• How to share your success to highlight what you bring to the table.
• How to identify your bank of transferrable skills.
• How to expand in your position and learn new skills.
• How to build leadership and presence in your current position.

This workshop will cover:
• The three key components of interviewing
• Long-term career goals and planning
• Identifying potential opportunities
• Asking for a promotion or raise
• Understanding the influence of transition
• Recognizing transferrable skills
