Stepping Into More: Effective Influencing & Feedback

Pepperdine University Westlake Village Campus
2829 Townsgate Road Suite 180
Westlake Village, CA 91361
Saturday, May 20, 2017, 10am – 12pm

2 hour 2 part workshop on how to influence, and how to give and receive feedback more effectively.

Stepping Into More: Effective Influencing

Learn how to influence in all directions by building relationships.

In today’s world of do more with less, we need to know how to influence in all directions without necessarily having authority over those we need to persuade. Most people mistakenly think they can get things done through others in one simple meeting. This is usually far from the truth. Effective influencing requires an ongoing process and thoughtful consideration. Do you have a strategy in place to get things done through others that focuses on building relationships and creating “win-win-wins?” Learn an approach that has a positive impact on the individual, teams, and organizational performance.

Learn how to:
  • Define positive influencing
  • Utilize the 3 part influencing process including strategy, packaging and commitment
  • Develop influencing strategies that strengthens relationships and achieves business results
  • Consider how to apply concepts learned to a real life influence opportunity

Stepping Into More: Effective Feedback

Maximize your strengths and sharpen your feedback tool-kit.

Are you uncomfortable at both giving and receiving feedback?
Do you put off giving feedback or avoid it all together?
Did you know that second only to firing an employee, managers cite performance appraisals and giving feedback as tasks they dislike most?

Learn how to:
  • Assess your current level of effectiveness at both giving and receiving feedback
  • Identify your personal behavioral style in giving feedback
  • Learn a practical approach to giving effective positive and developmental feedback
  • Implement best practices through hands on skill building with real life scenarios
  • Walk away with at least 2 unique tools on giving feedback

Malibu Potteries: A Treasure of California Design

Drescher Campus Library
24255 Pacific Coast Highway
Malibu, CA 90263
Ongoing through Wednesday, May 31, 2017

In 1915, visitors to the Panama-California Exhibition in San Diego fell in love with the Spanish-Moorish style of architecture created for the exhibition. Specifically, they fell in love with the beautiful and vibrant tiles that adorned fountains, stairs, and courtyards, glazed with colors and designs that evoked the sunny feel of Southern California. A decade later, May K. Rindge opened Malibu Potteries, which would for six years produce some of the most sought-after tile art produced in the region. Though the factory has been closed since 1932, the tiles still adorn many structures in Los Angeles and Malibu and the style has become synonymous with classic Southern California architecture. We are happy to present for display a collection of unique Malibu Potteries tiles from our archives. This exhibit will be available for viewing in the exhibit cases in front of Special Collections in the Drescher Graduate Campus Library through the end of October.
