Ongoing through Monday, October 31, 2016

In 1915, visitors to the Panama-California Exhibition in San Diego fell in love with the Spanish-Moorish style of architecture created for the exhibition. Specifically, they fell in love with the beautiful and vibrant tiles that adorned fountains, stairs, and courtyards, glazed with colors and designs that evoked the sunny feel of Southern California. A decade later, May K. Rindge opened Malibu Potteries, which would for six years produce some of the most sought-after tile art produced in the region. Though the factory has been closed since 1932, the tiles still adorn many structures in Los Angeles and Malibu and the style has become synonymous with classic Southern California architecture. We are happy to present for display a collection of unique Malibu Potteries tiles from our archives. This exhibit will be available for viewing in the exhibit cases in front of Special Collections in the Drescher Graduate Campus Library through the end of October.
