Special Speaker Event with Dr. Sam Pitroda
“Reimagining Capitalism : The Gandhian Way”
(In honor of Gandhi's 151st birthday on October 2nd)
Dr. Sam Pitroda is an internationally respected telecom inventor, entrepreneur, development thinker, and policy maker who has spent more than 50 years in information and communications technology (ICT) and related global developments. Credited with having laid the foundation for India’s telecommunications and technology revolution of the 1980s, Dr. Pitroda has been a leading campaigner to help bridge the global digital divide.
Dr. Pitroda served as Advisor to the Prime Minister of India on Public Information Infrastructure and Innovation, is a Founding Member of the UN Broadband Commission, a Board Member of the m-Powering Development Initiative of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), and a Member of the United States National Academy of Engineering (NAE).
Deeply inspired by Mahatma Gandhi throughout his life, Dr. Pitroda can tell stories about remembering the day Gandhiji died. Mahatma Gandhi inspired his sense of ethics and business practice, and led Dr. Pitroda to also found the Gandhi Heritage Portal (www.gandhiheritageportal.org/), a free online database with over 500,000 pages of material and resources in searchable electronic format in an effort to preserve Gandhi’s legacy.
Join Net Impact as Dr. Pitroda discusses Mahatma Gandhi and his perspective on how we can reimagine capitalism to include more honesty, non-violence, transparency, justice, and equality for all. He will also be answering student questions.
