The Code of Hammurabi (1750 BC) established the first monetary rules by setting maximum rates of interest for lending. However, it took another 3,000 years until compound interest was formally defined in a mathematical framework. Innovation and technology have always been at the forefront of financial services but today, the pace of innovation appears to happen at a break-neck speed.
While the general public may have heard of concepts such as Blockchain, Cryptocurrencies, NFTs, ICOs, SPACs and Robo-advisors, the technology behind them and their often cryptic names (Python, Java, R etc.) are far less known. We will explore some of these concepts and address how financial innovation will shape our society in the coming decades. What is the future of finance? Is that future already upon us? These questions as well as other finance issues will be addressed in Dr. Kownatzki’s presentation.
