Alumni, students and friends of the Graziadio School are invited to an evening of art and music to learn about and celebrate centuries of vibrant African American art history. This event will highlight the significant influence African Americans have had on various forms of art.

The keynote speaker is award-winning artist and author Synthia Saint James. Celebrating 45 years as a professional artist, Saint James has received numerous accolades for her work, including a doctorate from Saint Augustine's College, the WYCA Silver Achievement Award and the Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award for the children's book Neeny Coming Neeny Going. She was the first painter to receive a Trumpet Award. Saint James is best-known for creating the original cover art for the hardcover edition of Terry McMillan's book Waiting to Exhale and designing the first Kwanzaa stamp for the United States Postal Service, for which she received a History Makers Award.

Other featured artists include jazz musician Princeton Parker and Pepperdine's own spoken word artist, Demi McCoy. Pepperdine professors Raymond and Joi Carr will lead us through this compelling journey. Please come prepared to support the artists by purchasing their work. Forty percent of the proceeds from all Synthia Saint James sales will be donated to the Black Alumni Council Scholarship Fund.
