Featured speaker, Silvio Pietro Angori, CEO and Managing Director of Pininfarina S.p.A., Italy, will be hosting an engaging session on the future of design and engineering in the context of a changing global economy.  In our new social reality, the relevance of the idea of possession of an object is fading away and the need for an “experience” is becoming increasingly important. Mr. Angori will discuss the challenges and opportunities for an iconic company such as Pininfarina S.p.A. in today’s world. 

Mr. Angori, was called at Pininfarina S.p.A. as Chief Operating Officer on January 2007. On August 2009, he was appointed to the Board of Advisors and eventually on April 2009, he was elected CEO.

Come and learn about Entrepreneurship with Mr. Eugene Kim, the CEO of YEEZY shoe brand, most notable by Rap Artist Kanye West.

EUGENE KIM

Mr. Kim started his career in NYC in investment banking at DLJ Credit Suisse covering technology and telecom. He later moved to Silicon Valley private equity firm McCown De Leeuw & Co. He was part of a 3-person team that managed and ultimately sold portfolio company 24 Hour Fitness for $1.7B. He was a consultant for the Boston Consulting Group in their San Francisco office and worked with a number of telecom clients. In 2008 he joined The Gores Group as a member of their global operations group. During which time he became chairman of J Mendel and Chief Transformation Officer of Mexx Inc. In 2012 he joined a Gores family start-up Pressed Juicery. The company was co-founded by Alec Gores ex-wife Hedi Gores. As Pressed Juicery’s first executive, Eugene grew Pressed Juicery from a single juice kiosk to a national chain of 100% company-owned stores. In 2016 Eugene executed a recap valuing the Company at $200M with the Walton family office and subsequently purchased all of Odwalla’s California operations. Pressed Juicery now owns one of North America’s largest production facilities with over $2B of manufacturing capacity. The Company continues to flourish and enjoy double-digit growth. Eugene remains one of the largest shareholders and the deciding vote of its board. In 2017 Eugene partnered with Kanye West to join as the CEO of his diversified holdings including Yeezy. Since joining Eugene has recruited a world class management and built global infrastructure. In his first year, the business is expected to generate system wide sales exceeding $1.5B with industry leading profitability which represents dramatic year over year growth. The company is on track to become one of the largest global sneaker brands in the next 2-3 years.

Eugene earned his BA in history and environmental engineering from Dartmouth College. He also earned an MBA in marketing and statistics from The Wharton School.

Gaddi H. Vasquez is senior vice president of Government Affairs for Southern
California Edison (SCE), one of the nation’s largest electric utilities, and its parent
company, Edison International. He is responsible for government relations
activities at the Federal and State level, as well as Local Public Affairs.
He is the descendant of a migrant working family and was the first in his family to
earn a college degree. Vasquez has spent most of his life in Orange County and
has been a leader in promoting health, safety, and educational opportunities for
children and youth in underserved communities.
Prior to his current position, he served as U.S. Ambassador and permanent
representative to United Nations Agencies based in Rome, Italy. There he
managed a U.S. multi-agency team responsible for oversight of U.N.
Organizations.
From 2002-2006, Ambassador Vasquez served as Director of the United States
Peace Corps where he led the international volunteer service organization with
volunteers and staff serving in 78 countries.
Vasquez has served on the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships
and has been appointed by three California Governors to state boards and
commissions.
He currently serves on the Boards of Directors of the Public Policy Institute of
California, the Pat Brown Institute, the Segerstrom Center for the Performing
Arts and National Advisory Board for the Salvation Army.
He has been recognized by the Marine Corps Scholarship Fund as a recipient of
the Globe and Anchor award and the American Council of Young Political
Leaders. He has been named as one of the 100 Most Influential Hispanics in
the United States by Hispanic Business Magazine. In 2014, he was a recipient
of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor and in 2016 received the Bill of Rights Award
by the Constitutional Rights Foundation. Most recently, he received the Eagle
Leadership Award from the Latino Leaders Network.
Vasquez received a bachelor’s degree in Public Service Management from the
University of Redlands and is the recipient of five honorary doctorate degrees.
He also served as a Trustee/Professor at the Chapman University.

The Center for Women in Leadership is pleased to welcome Mary-Ann Somers, Senior Vice President Chief Commercial Officer, Intuit, Inc., Consumer Group to our West LA campus for an informative session on executive leadership at the intersection of financial management and technology.

In her role at Intuit, Mary-Ann is responsible for revenue, strategy, marketing, sales, insights, and analytics for the Consumer Group which includes the #1 tax preparation TurboTax®, the new TurboTax Live with on-demand CPA’s, and Turbo and Mint personal finance apps.

Prior to joining Intuit in 2018, Mary-Ann held a variety of leadership positions in companies responsible for some of the world’s best-known brands such as Hershey, Coca-Cola, Colgate-Palmolive and Unilever. During her tenure at the Coca-Cola Company, Mary-Ann spent three years as the vice president of Marketing for the Venturing and Emerging Brands group then promoted to general manager/senior vice president, Water-Tea-Coffee. In this capacity, she led the team responsible for the water, tea and coffee business in the U.S. including Dasani, Gold Peak, Honest Tea, and Fuze.

Ms. Somers will comment on trends in FinTech along with her career journey and leadership wisdom from the perspective of an executive who has worked at the intersection of reviving brands through a commitment to being Consumer driven, Creativity inspired, and Commercially grounded.
