Red Letter Revolution Book Groups

Students, faculty and staff are invited to join in reading Red Letter Revolution and meet authors Tony Campolo and Shane Claiborne. This series of three book discussions and meals is sponsored by the Center for Faith and Learning, Convocation Office, Office of the Chaplain and International Programs. Dates and details are as follows:

1) Wednesday, September 17, 8:30-9:30am: have breakfast with Tony Campolo
2) Wednesday, October 15, 11am-12pm: have lunch as a small group with other students, faculty and staff to discuss the book
3) Wednesday, November 19, 11am-12pm: have lunch with Shane Claiborne

Participants will receive a copy of the book and free meals at each session.

Three convocation credits will be awarded to undergraduate students who attend ALL THREE sessions (no credit will be awarded for attendance at only one or two sessions).
Space is limited to the first 70 participants to RSVP. PRIORITY GIVEN TO THOSE WHO CAN ATTEND ALL DATES.

As is tradition with Pepperdine holiday parties, we want to help give back to the greater Los Angeles community. This year donations will be collected for the Micro-Enterprise Program at Pepperdine. The Micro-enterprise Program helps the underprivileged find gainful employment and launch micro-businesses. Today, the Program enrolls twenty participants (called "Entrepreneurs") each academic year from the Los Angeles Salvation Army, the Union Rescue Mission, Hope Gardens and the Upward Bound House. Pepperdine University graduate students mentor the Entrepreneurs through an intensive twenty-four week curriculum focused on personal improvement, career development, and entrepreneurship. Upon graduating, Entrepreneurs should be gainfully employed and ready to launch a micro business.

Author of DISRUPTORS, Kunal Mehta, will be at West LA campus to talk about his book which profiles the early failures of the entrepreneurs behind companies such as Foursquare, Pinterest, Venture for America, charity: water, FEED Projects and a host of other game-changing ventures; how to embrace failure as well as success as an entrepreneur.

Kunal Mehta is the founder of Chat-MD, a finance and strategy associate at charity: water, a former Investment Banker & the author of DISRUPTORS. Kunal wrote this book when he left behind his job in Investment Banking in search of more inspiring work. He sought to uncover the realistic stories of entrepreneurs that had lived the journey and left behind positions of security. Kunal Mehta worked at J.P. Morgan for four years during college and in Equities Trading at Nomura Securities post-graduation.
